Emerging evidence suggests waist circumference and waist hip ratio to be better indicators of obesity than BMI. Also, body fat percentage, suggesting adiposity is being linked with future cardiovascular risk. Thus precise assessment of obesity for management is an issue. Integral on of strengths of biomedical science and insights from Traditional knowledge systems ‐ Ayurveda & Yoga can help define obesity well. Prakriti  (body constitution), Dashavidha pariksha (parameters involving entire physiological profile of an individual) described in Ayurveda can provide a clearer picture. Development of an integrative protocol for better management of obesity is thus an aim.
