Skeletal muscle linked glucose homeostasis plays crucial role in development of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Insulin resistance, developed in skeletal muscles interferes substantially towards uptake of glucose in the body. Yoga, a popular Indian science followed worldwide for the physical and mental benefits associated with its regular practice has been well reported in T2DM, but without a mechanistic approach. Considering above literature, we hypothesize that Yoga interventions can decrease this resistance and thereby improve the glycaemic control. The present study will be carried out in 120 pre-diabetic individuals, wherein the effects of Yoga and physical exercise will be studied in a parallel manner over a duration of 4 months.
